Barry E. Long, 77, of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 14th, 2025 with his loving family by his side at Wellspan Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg. Barry was born on November 21, 1947 at Sunbury Community Hospital. He was the son of the late W. Ernest and Hettie Elizabeth (Bilger) Long.
Barry was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather (Pap), and friend. He married Bonnie (Yerger) Long on June 27, 1965 at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church, Kreamer. Together they created a life grounded in love, partnership, and building a family they cherished more than anything.
As a teenager, Barry started working as a line cook at the Dutch Pantry. Later, he was employed at Northway Industries. In 1976 he was employed by PP&L, where he then retired in August 2008, after 32 years of service.
Personally, Barry was known for his love of the outdoors, taking joy in hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also enjoyed cooking and baking for his family. He cherished spending time with them, including on summer vacations, playing games, and spending holidays together. He also greatly enjoyed carpentry, which he used to create various projects for his family. Barry was a constant presence in his family’s events - he took great pleasure and pride in attending his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sports, theatre, music, dance, and academic events. He was always very proud of their accomplishments.
In recent years, Barry was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and served as trustee. Previously, he attended Middleburg Wesleyan Church, where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, trustee, and youth leader. Earlier in life, he was a Scout Leader for the Kreamer Cub Scouts. Barry was also a longstanding member of Lafayette Lodge #194, serving as Worshipful Master in 1998.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bonnie, daughter of the late Leo and Pauline (Lenig) Yerger. He is survived by a daughter, Angela Schmoyer (significant other Matthew Hile) and son, Matthew Long (wife Laurie). He is also survived by grandchildren, Brittany Haines (husband John), Nicholas Schmoyer (wife Gabby), Logan Schmoyer (wife Jordan), Mackenzie Schmoyer (fiancé Gage Wheeland), Abigail Long, and step-granddaughter Ally Scarborough; and three great-grandchildren, Liam and Nora Haines, and Elena Schmoyer. He is also survived by his sisters Emma Metzger, Barbara Smith, Rose Wimer (husband Bill); brothers Carl Long (wife Jean) and Galen Long (wife Beth); brothers-in-law Guy Graybill and Richard Reichley; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Barry Long, Jr.; brothers Donald, Orvis, Paul, Gerald, Earl, and Ronald Long; sister Molly Heiser; sisters-in-law Nancy Graybill and Sandra Reichley; and brothers-in-law Ron Smith, Jack Metzger, and John Heiser.
