David Deckard Obituary

David Lee “Dave” Deckard, 87, of Selinsgrove entered peacefully into eternal life on Monday, March 16, 2026, at his home.

Dave was born on June 9, 1938, to Charles Edgar and Carrie Belle (Smith) Deckard in Liverpool, PA where he was raised and lived his childhood years.

Dave was a 1956 graduate of Greenwood Joint High School and later proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. On February 10, 1961, he married the love of his life, Audrey Lee Beaver. Together Audrey and Dave built a life centered on family, raising their three children Mike, Steve and Carol in a home rich with love, laughter, and encouragement. They shared 63 wonderful years of marriage before Audrey’s passing on March 26, 2024. Dave was devout and steadfast in his Christian faith.

He was an active member of Sharon Lutheran Church where he worshipped for over 60 years. At Sharon Lutheran, Dave performed in the Choir, served as a church council member, a communion assistant, and on various committees.

Deeply committed to his community, Dave was a Selinsgrove Area Little League coach, served as President of the Selinsgrove Football Booster Club and was a Charter member of the Mid Penn Sportsman Club. He also enjoyed umpiring in the Tri County and West Branch Baseball Leagues. While enlisted in the Air Force, Dave played on his Base Baseball Team traveling throughout the United Kingdom.  Dave found lasting fulfillment in the simple pleasures in life: hunting, fishing, and tending to his property alongside his beloved wife, Audrey. At the end of each day, they could be found relaxing together in their screened-in porch, sharing a gin and tonic and the quiet satisfaction of a day well spent. Sports were a meaningful part of Dave’s life. He and Audrey were devoted supporters of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They were a constant presence on the sidelines, offering encouragement and cheering with pride. Above all, Dave and Audrey cherished their family. They dedicated their lives to instilling strong values, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue to guide their loved ones for generations to come.

Dave is survived by his three children, Mike and Julie Deckard, Steve and Kathi Deckard, and Carol(Deckard) and Tim Apple; seven grandchildren, Eric and Julie Deckard, Danica(Deckard) and Molly Doyle, Nicole(Deckard) and Christian Ortiz, Dr. Benjamin Apple, Caitlin Apple, Joshua and Elise Goodman, and Jeremy and Claire Goodman; nine great-grandchildren, Beau Deckard, Gavin Deckard, Audrey Deckard, Eliana Ortiz, Christian Ortiz, James Goodman, Louis Goodman, Cary Goodman, and Joan Lee Doyle; a sister-in-law  Mary and Dr. Thomas Werner;  two nephews, Jeffrey and Claudia (Sans) Werner and Dr. Johnathan and Dr. Kristine (Mitsuko-Shima) Werner.
