Edith Wilhour Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Edith Wilhour announces her passing into eternal peace, on Feb. 20, 2025, at the age of 92.

Edith, previously from Shamokin Dam, and most recently a resident of Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, will be lovingly remembered by her surviving husband of 72 years, George; her two sons, Jeff (wife Karen) and Craig (wife Cherie); her grandchildren, Eric, Ellen, James (J.J.) and Carolyn Wilhour; her great-grandchildren, Henry, Liam and Charlotte Wilhour; her sister Jane Barnasconi (Robert) and her many nieces, nephews and extended family. Edith was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Walter; her nephew, Anthony Barnasconi, and nieces Janice Lutze and Debbie Reitz.

Born in Buffalo Crossroads on Aug. 15, 1932, to the late John and Dora (Troup) Walter, Edith moved to Shamokin Dam in 1948, where she met next door neighbor and husband-to-be, George. They went on to be married in 1952 and spent several years stationed at various bases in the Navy, eventually returning to Shamokin Dam, where they settled and raised their family.

Family and friends were everything to Edith and she loved them all dearly. She enjoyed her time cooking, baking and canning with her mother, aunt, sister and family. In the 1960s, she learned to drive a school bus, which she did for nearly 20 years to help support the family business, BKW Coach Lines, a school and charter bus operation that serviced the Susquehanna Valley for many years. Edith loved to travel and often accompanied her husband George on the numerous cross-country bus trips that were an integral part of their lives.

Edith was a lifelong member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church of Shamokin Dam, where she was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Group. Edith was also quite active with the Greater Susquehanna Valley Area Penn State Club and seldom missed a Penn State home game in her earlier years.

A private burial service for family and friends will be held at Orchard Hills Cemetery with Pastor Mindy Bartholemew officiating. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make any charitable donations to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 3249 N. Old Trail, Shamokin Dam, PA 17876.

Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
