Eugene Christine Obituary

Eugene C. “Gene” Christine, of Selinsgrove, entered into eternal rest on February 19, 2026. He was the devoted husband of Barbara Troester Christine, with whom he shared 54 years of love, partnership, and unwavering commitment.

Known affectionately as Gene, he is survived by his five children: Lori J. Seaman, Tana L. Christine, Sean E. Christine, William M. Schieber, and Brian D. Schieber; twelve grandchildren; and five great‑grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Dale Christine and Dale’s wife Eleanor, Terry Christine and Terry’s wife Jane, and his sister Sharon Christine Highers, along with fourteen nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his sister Gladys Christine Kline and Gladys’ husband Neal; his brother Carl Christine and Carl’s wife Diane; brother-in-law Lou Highers; his infant brother Ned Christine; his mother Esther A. Lenig Christine; his father George H. Christine; his sons Scott Seaman and Lon Seaman; and his daughter Beth Schieber Zukas.

A man defined by his work ethic and devotion to family, Gene spent more than 30 years as a barber—a trade he loved not only for the craft, but for the friendships he built in the barber’s chair. From 1971 to 1983, he owned and operated the historic Old Trail Inn in Shamokin Dam. As a restaurateur, innkeeper, and barber, he created a warm, old‑fashioned gathering place where guests could enjoy a meal, a drink, a room for the night, and even a haircut. After retiring from barbering, Gene founded Sentry Security Company, which became one of the most respected names in the Susquehanna Valley. He was also a successful real estate investor whose hard work and vision shaped a legacy for his family.

Gene was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Shamokin Dam and a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. He was a life member of the Hummels Wharf and DH&L Fire Companies, a former volunteer with the Shamokin Dam Fire Company, and a lifetime member of both the Shamokin Dam Rod & Gun Club and Masonic Lodge #194 of Selinsgrove.

He found joy in hunting with the Shamokin Dam Rod & Gun Club, fishing with his dear friends Dr. John McGurk and Jake Wright, boating on the Susquehanna River, watching old westerns, the Phillies, and the Eagles.  Above all, Gene cherished time spent with his family. He was a storyteller at heart—always ready with a tale, a laugh, and a smile. His presence brought warmth to every room, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
