Freida M (Gill) Markley

Freida Mae (Gill) Markley, 93, of Selinsgrove passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Brookdale Grayson View, Selinsgrove. She was born on May 15, 1932, in Middlecreek Township, Snyder Co. (Kreamer). She was a daughter of the late Howard William and Dorothy May (Dunkleberger) Gill of Paxtonville. On March 28, 1953, she married Herbert E. “Butch” Markley and were married for 67 years until his passing on January 2, 2021. She was a 1949 graduate of Selinsgrove High School. Freida worked at Champs Hat, Sunbury, A&A Orchards, American Holtzkraft Inc., Mt. Pleasant Mills, Martin Brothers Produce and owned a dairy farm. She liked to read, canning, and going to yard sales and having a yard sale. Freida was a member of St. Paul’s (Verdilla) United Church of Christ, Selinsgrove and was on the consistory, women’s guild, and taught the kindergarten Sunday School class. She was also a life member of the Auxiliary of the Port Trevorton Fire Company. Freida is survived by her grandchildren Shanon (Ben) Zeigler, Kyle Wenrich, DeKen (Gretchen) Wenrich, great grandchildren Spencer Wenrich and Mason Zeigler; a brother James (Susan) Gill, and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Marie in infancy and Deborah Jean Wenrich on January 17, 2024, and Randolph S. Wenrich, two brothers Eugene in infancy and Richard (Pat) Gill, and two sisters Ethel (James) Naugle and Shirley (Donald) Schuck. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Therese DeGenova and all of the staff at Grayson View for welcoming and caring for our grandmother. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. We also appreciate the care and compassion provided by Geisinger Hospice. A viewing will be held on Wednesday January 21, 2026, from 6-8pm at St. Paul’s (Verdilla) United Church of Christ, 3272 Produce Road, Selinsgrove. A private graveside service will be held in Fairview Cemetery at Verdilla with Pastor Amelia Price officiating. Memorial contributions in loving memory of Freida may be made to her church.
