John Oglesby Obituary

John Mills Oglesby, 71, of Mt. Pleasant Mills, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. John was born on January 31, 1955, in Morristown, New Jersey, the son of the late William Mills and Vilma Elise (Bungenstab) Oglesby. On October 3, 1982, he married the former Vanessa Antonicci, who survives. The couple was married 43 years at the time of John’s passing.

John was a graduate of Randolph High School in New Jersey and furthered his education at Susquehanna University in music education and later received a bachelor’s degree in religious studies and an associate’s degree in computer science.

John retired from SUNCOM Industries, Northumberland and was previously employed by Susquehanna University as a technical services engineer. He later taught evening classes in computer science.

In his earlier years, John enjoyed playing tennis and running and could be found on the courts and track at Susquehanna University every weekend. However, his lifelong passion was music. As a young adult, he played in a local band with his friends. As a father, he shared his love of music with his children as he filled their home with various genres of music from classical to jazz. John’s recent passion was playing his world flutes and his membership in the World Flute Society. He loved participating in flute circles weekly for many years.

In addition to his loving wife, Vanessa, John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Nathan Oglesby and Eva Ortega; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Justin Bennage; two grandchildren, Autumn and Jace Bennage; brother and sister-in-law, William and Roberta Oglesby; and sister-in-law, Kathy Reid.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, James Oglesby.

Services will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family.
