Leona Stretansky

Leona (Lee) Stretansky, 90, of Selinsgrove, passed away on November 2, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born October 9, 1935, in Hanover Township, PA, she was the only daughter of the late Leo Shanders and Genevieve Sudo and was a stepdaughter of the late Albert Budjnoski. Her husband, Cyril Stretansky, preceded her in death in 2021.

Leona and Cyril were married at Exaltation of the Holy Cross Church in Hanover Township in 1959 by Rev. Stephen Yanecka with a Mass sung by the Men’s Gregorian Choir which Cyril established at St. Josephs Church in Nanticoke. They celebrated 61 beautiful years of marriage.

A graduate of Hanover Township High School class of 1952, Leona received a Bachelor of Science from Misericordia in Dallas, PA and pursued graduate studies at Marywood College and Penn State University.

For a total of 31 years, she taught elementary education. She taught for 3 years in Bensalem, Bucks County, 13 years in Montrose, PA, and 15 years at the Shikellamy School District in Northumberland.

Leona loved keeping in touch with relatives and friends, especially with former Susquehanna University students and their families. Her and Cyril enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the United States, and touring with the S.U. Choir.

Leona is survived by a nephew, Dr. Thaddeus Wadas of Iowa City, Iowa. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Theresa and her husband Rev. Thaddeus Wadas. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 10, 2025, at St. Monica Catholic Church, Sunbury with Rev. Fred Wangwe, A.J. as celebrant. Visitation will be from 10:45 am to 12:45 pm in the church.

Burial will be private in St. Josephs Cemetery, Nanticoke.
