William James Kadryna, 84, known by friends and family as “Bill,” “Grandpa,” and
“Papa,” of Shamokin Dam, PA, entered into rest on Tuesday morning, November 18,
2025, at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, PA, surrounded by his
loving family.
William was born on June 19, 1941, in Scranton, Lackawanna County, PA, to the late
William Walter and Helen Nellie (Fedysky) Kadryna. He graduated from West Scranton
High School in 1959 and continued his education at Keystone Junior College, where he
earned an Associate of Arts in Chemical Engineering in 1961. William furthered his
studies at Pennsylvania State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Electrical
Engineering in 1966. His academic journey didn't stop there; he earned a Master of
Business Administration from Bucknell University in 1977, a Master of Science in
Electrical Engineering from Wilkes & Lehigh University, and a teaching certificate from
Susquehanna University in 1998.
On June 25, 1966, he married the former Ann Joyce Haller of Tunkhannock, who
survives.
Bill retired after 30 years from Pennsylvania Power & Light Company, where he served
as a Distribution Area Operating Manager and Electrical Engineer. Following his
retirement, he worked as a substitute math teacher at the Selinsgrove Area School
District and the Southern Columbia School District. Later, he joined his son's business,
Impact Management in Danville, PA, where he worked for ten years.
Bill was a dedicated member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Selinsgrove, PA. He was
a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a Past President of the Rotary Club in
Selinsgrove, PA, where he played a key role in the planning and development of the
Rotary Field. Bill was also an active member of the Train Collectors Association and
served as an advisor for the Transportation Committee of the Susquehanna Valley
Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he was involved with Boy Scout Troop 419 in
Selinsgrove, PA, as an assistant leader and committee member, and he contributed his
expertise as a board member and business advisor for the Hemlock Girl Scout Council.
Bill had a passion for Lionel O gauge trains and amassed an extensive collection. He
enjoyed fishing, especially in Canada, and loved traveling with his wife to Germany,
Hawaii, and Alaska to visit their daughter while she served in the U.S. Air Force. Bill
was also a dedicated Penn State football fan and a season ticket holder, attending
many games. However, his greatest passion was for his family. He loved his wife and
children dearly and was so very proud of his four grandchildren with all of their sports,
scouting, and academic achievements. They were the absolute light of his life!
In addition to his loving wife Joyce of 59 years, Bill is survived by his daughter and son-
in-law, Kimberly Ann (Kadryna), Colonel (Ret.), USAF, and Christopher Allen Tooman,
Colonel (Ret.), USAF; his son and daughter-in-law, William James “Jim” Jr. and Sherri
Kadryna; former daughter-in-law, Nikki Lynn (Sechrist) Kadryna; four grandchildren,
fraternal twins Isabella Nichole Kadryna and Olivia Nichole Kadryna, Alexander James
Kadryna, and Danica Joyce Tooman; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elaine Marie
“Cookie” (Kadryna) and John Charles Ruhanna Sr., and Diane Lynn (Kadryna) and
Bromley Williams Johnson Sr.; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-
nephews; and his beloved toy poodle, Buddy.
A private funeral mass for his family will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 112
Fairview Drive, Selinsgrove, PA 17870, with Father Joshua Cavender as the Celebrant.
Friends and family are invited to a Penn State tailgate-themed gathering celebrating the
life of Bill on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at The Venue at Liberty Valley,
533 Liberty Valley Road, Danville, PA 17821.
